RIP to Heath Ledger

Thaipusam, newly declared holiday, and I was in office to clean up a few logs and check my mails.

Then I got bored and started to surf IMDB.

Just when the page loads I got quite a shock and yelped.

Heath Ledger, dead at 28. Possibly linked to drug use......damn.

But I'm not buying it. Not until the autopsy report comes out lah at least......It seems so strange la....

Well I'm not a fan or anything, but the guy's memorable in Monster's Ball and he's the best thing in Brokeback Mountain. Just felt a bit pity knowing that he could've gone higher......

And damn, was looking forward to his performance in The Dark's gonna be a bit spooky la......

Kanasai, good talents always go early....Chris Benoit and Eddie Guerrero also like that......

I talk movie crap again......

Fuck the BEST OF list...shit man, I can't be bothered to come out with that sort of thing, I don't have enough information and two, everybody's probably done it so why should I?

Yeah I'm lazy actually......

Or, my life has become too routine for me to have any enthusiasm for this sort of thing......

Then again, I can't help but to talk about movies...just in the mood for it...

Like I said in the previous post, I've been to watching more movies in the cinema than the past 22 years combined......but most of those are typical Hollywood movies with the least originality. I found that I was not as passionate about those award-winning, artsy fartsy movies like I used to 3 years ago......

Then again, I'm too busy working to notice any good releases......

Or, the local cinemas don't show any good dramas......OK there's the European Film Festival at GSC but even if they get past the censors (which a lot of good dramas don't because they all have some amount of nudity or swearing) the end products are all "cut up"......

That's really fucked up for a self confessed film buff like me to fully enjoy a movie in its entirety...that's why I intentionally missed "Knocked Up" when it's showing the cinemas, coz' there's no bloody way I 'd enjoy something so cut up like that.....Will be getting the DVD soon though......

Speaking of which, that's where pirated DVDs save the day...I must say, I spend an almost equal amount of money on DVDs than to the cinemas...but the DVDs bought are purely films that are otherwise unavailable through the legal channels......

What would we do without the pirates...... :P

There's some great comedies last year too...the Judd Apatow variation that's brilliant but can have about 200 "fucks" in just one movie....

Anyways, here's some movies that I watched in the past year that was quite enjoyable and entertaining, and recommended to anyone else:
  • Clerks 2
  • Borat (if you "get" the satire)
  • Blood Diamond
  • Stranger Than Fiction
  • 300 (best visuals)
  • Pan's Labyrinth (most imaginative)
  • Mukhsin (really a gem that a lot of folks missed)
  • An Inconvenient Truth
  • The Simpsons Movie (Comedy of the year!!!)
  • Superbad
Those award-entry dramas that wildly interests me and will be getting on DVD:
  • Atonement
  • The Brave One
  • The Diving Bell and The Butterfly
  • Gone Baby Gone
  • Into the Wild
  • Juno
  • Lust, Caution
  • No Country For Old Men
  • Michael Clayton
  • The Savages
  • Rescue Dawn
For the summer movies, the suckiest of the lot was Spider-Man 3; Transformers was so-so only; Pirates 3 was overlong; For pure old school action go for Die Hard 4.0; My money for the best summer movie? Hot Fuzz (another gem that even more folks missed).

And lastly, to avoid at all cost, even a rental: Epic Movie. Easily the most crappy movie I wasted RM10 on.

The 2008 film lineup looks interesting enough. Let's keep the fingers crossed.

Well I blogged enough. Until next time. Chiao.

2007 In A Glance

Time certainly flies. Another year has gone.

Goodbye 2007, Welcome 2008!!!

2007 seems faster than any other year. Is it just me or what? Maybe it's the work...

I'll just try to recap the "milestones" of 2007 that I been through, as a memory refresher...God how my grammar and comprehension has deteriorated.....

In 2007, I have:

  • Officially graduated and having the convocation ceremony held in the Renaissance Hotel.
  • Bought more original CD albums than the past 22 years combined.
  • Watched more movies in the cinema than the past 22 years combined.
  • Completed 2 Chuck Palahniuk novels (Fight Club and Diary)...hey that's a lot of reading for me already ok! :P
  • Visited Indonesia and toured Jakarta, Bandung and Yogyakarta.
  • Stopped blogging for a period of 3 months...shit.
  • Attended a pretty good rock concert (My Chemical Romance Black Parade World Tour).
  • Missed what could have been a kick ass rock concert (Muse World Tour).
  • Gained a bunch of really fun colleagues as friends.
  • Helped completed a major PFS project for Tokyo HSBC.
  • Been promoted to permanent status in the company on the last day of the year.
  • Gained 5kgs and added 2" to the waistline...bloody hell......

Will try to come out with a BEST OF list in the next post.

Right now just wanna sleep. :P
